Overview

This skill standardizes planning documents under src/<project-slug>/ to ensure consistent PRDs, roadmaps, architecture notes, task breakdowns, and risk logs. It supports new project planning, PRD quality improvements, and requirement traceability, helping teams derive milestones and maintain decisions as projects evolve.

How This Skill Works

Start from the project brief template, then produce a PRD that includes requirement IDs and measurable acceptance criteria. Derive roadmap milestones from the PRD scope, create task breakdowns linked to those requirements, and keep risks and decisions up to date as changes happen. The workflow relies on the standard document set (00- to 05- files) and the provided templates and quality checklist.

When to Use It

  • Starting a new project planning package from scratch
  • Improving PRD quality and clarity
  • Performing requirement traceability checks across PRD, roadmap, and tasks
  • Deriving roadmap milestones and task decomposition from PRD scope
  • Maintaining risks and decisions logs as changes occur

Quick Start

  1. Step 1: Start from 00-project-brief.md template and fill in project details and goals
  2. Step 2: Create 01-prd.md with linked requirements IDs and measurable acceptance criteria
  3. Step 3: Derive 02-roadmap.md milestones from the PRD scope, then generate 04-task-breakdown.md and maintain 05-risks-and-decisions.md

Best Practices

  • Begin with 00-project-brief.md using the project brief template to set scope and goals
  • In 01-prd.md, include all requirement IDs and measurable acceptance criteria
  • Link each roadmap milestone in 02-roadmap.md to corresponding PRD requirements
  • Derive 04-task-breakdown.md from the roadmap with references to requirement IDs
  • Keep 05-risks-and-decisions.md up to date with every change, using the quality checklist for validation

Example Use Cases

  • Launching a new mobile feature by creating a full PRD with IDs, then deriving a roadmap and tasks while maintaining risk logs
  • Improving PRD quality for an existing SaaS product using the PRD quality checklist
  • Verifying requirement traceability from PRD to backlog items in a dashboard upgrade
  • Deriving cloud-migration roadmap milestones from the PRD scope for a data platform project
  • Iterative redesign of a marketing analytics tool with ongoing risk and decision logging
