The Product Feature Comparison Skill performs a feature-level comparison across products to support competitive analysis. It enables feature benchmarking, gap analysis, and informed product strategy by documenting how products stack up against each other.
How This Skill Works
List the products and versions to compare, define feature categories (Core features, Additional features, Integrations, Pricing tiers), and create a feature matrix that contrasts each feature across products. Then analyze gaps, quality differences, and pricing disparities, and generate a report using the specified template saved under 02-reports/[YYYYMMDD]-product-comparison-v0.md.
When to Use It
- When evaluating parity and gaps between competing products for a feature-by-feature assessment
- When benchmarking core, additional, integrations, and pricing features to inform strategy
- During procurement or vendor selections to compare feature sets side-by-side
- When planning roadmaps by identifying feature gaps and potential differentiators
- When documenting competitive analysis for internal stakeholders or executive briefings
Quick Start
- Step 1: List products to compare and capture their versions
- Step 2: Define feature categories (Core features, Additional features, Integrations, Pricing tiers)
- Step 3: Create a feature matrix (Product A vs Product B, add more products if needed) and generate the report using 02-reports/[YYYYMMDD]-product-comparison-v0.md with the template references/compare-products-template.md
Best Practices
- List each product and its version explicitly to avoid ambiguity
- Predefine feature categories (Core features, Additional features, Integrations, Pricing tiers) before filling the matrix
- Use objective, verifiable feature signals (yes/no, benchmarks, upgrade paths) in the matrix
- Keep the matrix up-to-date with product changes and pricing updates
- Anchor the final report to the template at references/compare-products-template.md and save to 02-reports/
Example Use Cases
- Compare two smartphone models: core camera, battery, display, and pricing tiers to determine parity and differentiators
- Evaluate two CRM platforms: core sales features, marketing integrations, and pricing tiers to inform purchasing decisions
- Benchmark cloud storage services: storage limits, sync capabilities, APIs/integrations, and pricing differences
- Assess ERP modules: inventory, manufacturing, analytics, and integrations to guide roadmap priorities
- Contrast analytics dashboards: data sources, refresh rates, visualization options, and tiered pricing
