How to use

Relay is a desktop application for visually managing MCP servers. It provides a centralized UI to add, edit, and organize multiple MCP servers, and includes a built-in marketplace to discover additional servers that extend AI assistants' capabilities. The app makes it easy to export configurations to clients like Claude Desktop and Cursor, ensuring your server setups can be synchronized across environments. Use Relay to enable or disable individual servers with a simple toggle, and rely on the marketplace to quickly provision common tools, databases, and APIs that your MCP workflow relies on. The export feature helps you keep deployments consistent by pushing your configured MCP servers to connected clients, so you can manage all your MCP resources from one place.

How to install

Prerequisites:

  • A supported desktop OS (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
  • Administrative rights to install software on your machine.

Steps:

  1. Download the latest Relay installer for your OS from the Releases page: https://github.com/Emeenent14/Relay/releases/latest
  2. Run the installer:
    • Windows: run the .msi or .exe file and follow the on-screen prompts.
    • macOS: open the .dmg and drag Relay to Applications.
    • Linux: install the appropriate package (.deb) or use the provided AppImage if available.
  3. Launch Relay from your applications menu or desktop shortcut.
  4. Sign in or start using Relay locally; you can immediately start adding MCP servers and exploring the Marketplace.

Note: If you already have a portable build or an in-house distribution, you can use those binaries directly, but ensure you’re running a supported version as indicated on the release notes.

Additional notes

Tips and common considerations:

  • All server configurations in Relay are stored locally on your device. Ensure you have backups of your Relay data if you rely on multiple machines.
  • Use the Marketplace to discover pre-configured MCP servers; verify the compatibility and required APIs/keys before enabling a server.
  • When exporting to Claude Desktop or Cursor, ensure the target client is compatible with the exported format and that you have the necessary authentication/permissions set up.
  • If you encounter issues, check the official Discord server or issues page for troubleshooting guidance and updates.
  • If you move to a new machine, you can re-import your local Relay configuration to recreate your MCP server setup.
